I. Product Introduction

RP-AD is a synergistic flame retardant formulated through a special process that combines microencapsulated red phosphorus flame retardant with a highly effective halogen-free phosphorus-based flame retardant. It is specifically designed for expanded board systems. The red phosphorus component in the product undergoes a microencapsulation process, which effectively overcomes the drawbacks of red phosphorus—namely, its flammability and tendency to absorb moisture—while significantly improving its dispersion and thermal stability in PU systems.

Utilizing a phosphorus-phosphorus synergistic flame-retardant mechanism, this product offers high flame-retardant efficiency with low addition levels and minimal impact on the foaming process and the physical properties of the panels, making it an ideal flame-retardant solution for halogen-free, environmentally friendly PU foam panels.

III. Product Features

· High efficiency at low addition – Significant phosphorusphosphorus synergy enables PU foam boards to meet GB 8624 B1 or UL94 V0 rating at low loadings.

· Stable foaming process – Little interference with the reaction system of PU foam; does not affect cream time or rise time, resulting in uniform and fine cell structure.

· Minimal impact on mechanical properties – Maintains good compressive strength, no brittleness or powdering, and excellent dimensional stability.

· Halogenfree and environmentally friendly – Free of halogens, compliant with RoHS, REACH and other international environmental regulations; low smoke and low toxicity during combustion.

· Excellent dispersibility – The microencapsulated red phosphorus disperses uniformly in PU systems without agglomeration or sedimentation.

· Good processing stability – High thermal stability; no blooming, no migration, and no corrosion of moulds during processing.

V. Applications

· Suitable substrates: Rigid polyurethane foam boards (PU insulation boards, PU construction panels, etc.).

· Recommended addition level: 8%–15% by weight of the polyol component, depending on the target fire rating (B1 or V0), foam density, and formulation. Final dosage should be determined through trials.

· Mixing method: Premix RP-AD with the polyol component thoroughly (highspeed stirring for 5–10 minutes is recommended), then proceed with the standard foaming process by adding isocyanate, catalysts, blowing agents, etc.

· Combination suggestions: Can be used together with liquid phosphorusbased flame retardants (e.g., DMMP) to further improve efficiency.

· Colour note: As the product contains red phosphorus, finished boards will exhibit a light reddish to brownish tone. It is not recommended for applications requiring pure white or light colours.
