ZDP Zinc Diethyl Hypophosphite

I. Product Introduction

ZDP (Zinc Diethylphosphinate) is a white, free‑flowing powder, a high‑temperature‑resistant, non‑migrating phosphorus‑containing organic zinc salt flame retardant. The product exhibits melting characteristics at high temperatures, which facilitates melt blending with polymers and prevents blockage of spinneret holes. It is particularly suitable for halogen‑free flame retardant treatment of PET fiber fabrics and PET film systems. With good compatibility with base resins, it is also suitable for injection moulding of PBT and PET. The product melts at around 200°C, making it easier to disperse during processing.

III. Product Features

1. Eco-friendly – Halogen-free; does not contain halogens. Good thermal stability with no decomposition or odour generation during high-temperature processing.

2. Stable physical and chemical properties – High temperature resistance; melts at high temperature without blocking spinneret holes. High purity with effective substance content up to 99%. Precise elemental content with strictly controlled phosphorus and zinc levels.

3. Processing and application advantages – Good compatibility with resins. Flexible processing, suitable for various spinning systems with easy textile processing. Enhances fibre strength and dyeability.

4. Excellent flame retardant effect – Highly efficient flame retardant. Recommended addition level 3%–5% achieves an oxygen index above 30%. Also improves the antistatic properties of polyester products.

5. Non-migrating – No surface blooming or migration during long term use.


IV. Application

ZDP is suitable for the production of the following polyester products:

· Polyester chips

· Filaments

· Staple fibres

· Films

· PET injection moulded parts

· PBT injection moulded parts

Products made with ZDP exhibit good colouration, spinability, fibre strength, and dyeability. They can be processed on any spinning system and offer excellent thermal stability with no decomposition or odour generation during spinning. ZDP also improves the antistatic properties of polyester products and is suitable for all areas where conventional PET and PBT are used.

Substitution: ZDP can fully replace Clariant’s OP 950 in all applications.


Usage Recommendations

For more stable flame retardant performance in polyester fabrics, it is recommended to first prepare a 50% PET flame retardant masterbatch with ZDP, then add this masterbatch to PET.

· Recommended ZDP addition level: 4% – 6% (as pure ZDP)

· Expected oxygen index (LOI): ≥30%

Users should select appropriate dyeing and finishing conditions to ensure the final product achieves optimal permanent flame retardant performance.


V. Package Storage and Transportation
1. Paper bags with PE in liner, 20kg/bag.
2. Transport as non-dangerous chemical product.

3. Storage in cool dry place.
