Application of Flame Retardant PA, PP, PBT, PPO, etc. in New Energy Vehicle Components!

I. Battery Pack Module

In new energy vehicle battery modules, the high voltage can reach 690V, and instantaneous pulses can exceed 800V. Therefore, if flame-retardant materials are not used, incidents such as electric shock from voltage breakdown or spontaneous combustion due to high temperatures can occur, affecting the entire vehicle. Consequently, flame-retardant materials have become the preferred choice for battery module casings.

Battery pack casings can generally be manufactured using: cast steel plate, aluminum alloy, SMC composite materials, carbon fiber reinforced composites, long glass fiber reinforced flame-retardant polypropylene materials, PP-LGF35, PA66, etc.

II. Automotive Connectors

Connector contacts are made of metal and undergo frequent insertion and extraction cycles. The most basic requirements for the material are good flame retardancy and heat resistance to prevent ignition. Currently, commonly used materials for connectors include PBT, PPS, PA, Polyphenylene Ether (PPE), PET, Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP), etc.

III. Interior Trim

There is a wide variety of automotive interior materials, which can generally be divided into four categories: fiber textiles and leather, plastics, rubbers, and composite materials. These materials are typically flammable or combustible. In the event of a vehicle fire, the combustion of interior materials can directly harm the occupants inside. Therefore, the flame retardancy of automotive interiors is of great significance for safety.

IV. Automotive Cables

Unlike traditional wires and cables, automotive cables have high requirements for materials due to the specific nature of their application environment. In addition to ensuring insulation properties, they must also possess certain levels of high-temperature resistance and aging resistance. Furthermore, they need to exhibit halogen-free flame retardancy and low smoke density during combustion.

Note: XLPE is Cross-linked Polyethylene, TPE is Thermoplastic Elastomer, TPV is Thermoplastic Vulcanizate, TPU is Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomer, EPR is Ethylene Propylene Rubber, PVC/HNBR is Polyvinyl Chloride/Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber, CPE/CR is Chlorinated Polyethylene/Chloroprene Rubber.

V. Charging Components

Charging facilities include high-voltage components such as charging piles, high-voltage cables, high-voltage connectors, and charging guns. As important charging infrastructure for new energy vehicles, their significance is equal to that of the vehicle's power battery. Factors such as flame retardancy and safety during charging must be considered.

• Charging Gun: The charging gun, serving as the connector for electric vehicle charging, acts as the "bridge" linking charging facilities like charging piles with the electric vehicle. Its quality directly affects charging performance and safety. The material requirements for charging guns are relatively high. Common materials include PBT+GF, PA+GF, weather-resistant PC, etc.

• Plugs and Sockets: The primary materials for plug and socket housings are glass fiber reinforced PBT, PA66, etc.

Yinsu flame retardant is a factory, focuses on manufacturing non halogen, low smoke and non-toxic flame retardants for various of applications. It develops different chemical and plastic additive.
