When it comes to flame-retardant PE pipes, the biggest concern isn’t failing the test—it’s passing the test but failing on the production line.

Engineers who work with PE corrugated pipes, electrical conduits, and hollow sheets all know this—once the flame-retardant masterbatch is added and the tests are passed, problems start to arise on the production line: white bloom on the surface, brittle pipes, extruder screen clogs, and yellowing. After repeatedly adjusting the formulation and switching raw materials, the flame-retardant rating actually becomes even less stable.

The PE-XT-141 bromine-antimony masterbatch, developed by Yinsu Flame Retardant Company, is a reactive and additive-based flame-retardant masterbatch that directly addresses the issue of products passing tests but failing on the production line.

No leaching, no failure. Traditional flame retardants have poor compatibility with PE; after being left for a period of time, they cause surface frosting and whitening, leading to a decline in both the appearance and performance of the pipe. PE-XT-141 forms a uniform and stable dispersion system through melt blending and does not leach even after long-term storage.

Self-extinguishing upon removal from the flame, with controllable addition levels. Adding just 10–20% to PE achieves self-extinguishing properties upon removal from the flame. For V0-rated corrugated pipes, the typical addition rate is around 16%, though this should be adjusted based on the raw material’s melt flow index.

Generally, around 16% is sufficient to achieve V0 rating, but since different PE grades have different melt flow indices, the required amount may vary. We recommend conducting small-scale tests with the actual raw material to confirm.

Generally, no. PE-XT-141 is a white masterbatch, and conventional flame-retardant systems do not cause discoloration during processing. For transparent products, a specialized transparent flame retardant must be used.
