Ultrafine Halogen-Free Flame Retardants: Solving Four Major Application Challenges in Electronic Adhesives

FPC, FFC, and electronic potting compounds—uneven flame retardancy in ultra-thin coatings, component contamination, and failure due to high temperatures during reflow soldering are the three major challenges in flame retardancy for electronic adhesives. Yinsu’s YS-F22B ultra-fine halogen-free flame retardant (comparable to Clariant OP930), with a D95 particle size of ≤10 μm, is hydrolysis-resistant, non-migrating, and does not contaminate components. It achieves UL94 V-0 compliance at low loading levels and is suitable for high-end electronic adhesive applications such as FPCs, FFCs, electronic potting compounds, and label adhesives.

In August, the average monthly price of yellow phosphorus rose 4% month-over-month and 22% year-over-year, keeping costs for phosphorus-based flame retardants under sustained pressure. However, due to weak downstream demand, industry-wide oversupply, and difficulties in passing on cost increases, price hikes for flame retardants were limited, squeezing profit margins. In September, stockpiling ahead of the two major holidays may drive yellow phosphorus prices higher still, and cost support remains strong. Until end-user demand shows a noticeable recovery, the phosphorus-based flame retardant market is expected to maintain a pattern of “high costs, weak demand, and tight profit margins,” with profit recovery still contingent on a revival in consumption.

YinSu Flame Retardant Company offers PE-XT-141 non-leaching flame-retardant masterbatch and the FRP-950X red phosphorus flame-retardant solution, which address the leaching issue at its source and ensure long-term stability of flame-retardant performance.
